DON CAMACHO  BIO        PROFESSIONAL DRUMMER

​

 Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of a musically talented Entertainer, Performer, and Drummer;( KING TUT CAMACHO); Don began to learn and master the techniques of  Rhythm...      

At the age of four....as he grew so did his exposure to great musicians.  Sitting in front of the family radio (floor model with record player!!)  daily listening to the likes of all the Big Bands as well as the talented vocalists that were broadcast live.  His  DAD also exposed him to his vast collection of 78 rpm"s feeding him a gourmet diet of super talent that emerged from the thirty's and forty's music

eras.

 

As the KING raised the bar, he worked with Don on sticking technique and all those Rudiments that help a drummer to develop his style!   Along with his Dad, Don would play copycat rhythms: the King called it follow me.  As Don's skills developed the game turned to talk back, where he and his Dad  would talk back and forth from separate drums each playing measures of rhythm swithching back and forth.  These excercises while fun; allowed Don to develop not only sticking

techniques necessary to become a great drummer, but also sharply developed his ability to hear audiotonal changes in music and in rhythm patterns.

 

While all this was important the KING knew there was an element even more significant.  So he took Don along on a gig. Don recalls his Dad asking"DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BECOME A DRUMMER"  AND OF COURSE DON'S REPLY WAS OOOHHH YEAHHHH!!!...  So the KING let him LUG, CARRY, SET UP AND TEAR DOWN, LOAD AND UNLOAD THE VERY INSTRUMENT HE ERNESTLY DESIRED TO PLAY.  This endeavor did afford Don the opportunity to sit back stage and observe Professional Musicianship while he watched the KING  fascinate every crowd in every venue where he appeared!! 

 

Of course this all eventually led to the coveted sitting in with the Band, so getting to play with Really Great Musicians became a regular event ..As time has passed  Don's musical encounters have taken him to many Geographic areas and many different Venues Both Hear and Abroad; Performing before a vast array of Audiences in all music genres....

 

SINCE HE BEGAN  PLAYING AT AGE FOUR/  DON HAS  PERFORMED WITH SMALL GROUPS AS WELL AS LARGE BANDS. AREAS OF PLAY HAVE BEEN IN BIG BAND, SWING, JUMP/JIVE, JAZZ, ROCK, POP, DOO WOP, ROCKABILLY ,. RHYTHM/ BLUES; COUNTRY AND GOSPEL MUSIC.. AFTER PERFORMING IN THE NORTH EAST FOR SOME TWENTY ODD YEARS DON HEADED SOUTH TO FLORIDA..  SINCE 1982 DON HAS BEEN TOURING ON THE RESORT CIRCUIT IN FLORIDA ;AND HAS  BACKED UP CELEBRITIES FROM THE FIFTIES AND SIXTIES MUSIC ERA'S... HE HAS PERFORMED IN MANY OF

FLORIDAS TOP RESORT VENUES ENTERTAINING A MULTITUDE

OF CORPORATE CLIENTS,  AND CROWDS LARGE AND SMALL!
